As you may or may not know, on the third Friday of each month I do a 30-minute segment on WBEZ’s Radio M where I play tunes from a handful of new international music releases and discuss them with host Tony Sarabia. The show airs at 9 PM; I’m usually on at 9:30.

This month, however, my spot runs a week early–this Friday, September 12–since next week the show will be broadcasting a concert live from Martyrs’ with Little Cow and Chicha Libre, part of this year’s World Music Festival: Chicago. This week’s program also features Brian Keigher, one of the festival’s organizers, talking about the lineup. Look for our guide to the fest this coming Thursday.

I’ll be playing new music by Brazil’s Beto Villares, the brilliant Cuban pianist Bebo Valdes, flamenco-jazz singer Buika, and the Iranian spike fiddle maestro Kayhan Kalhor.

Today’s playlist:

Guy Klucevsek, Song of Remembrance (Tzadik)
Steffen Schleiermacher, Enfants Terribles (Hat Art)
Steve Lacy, The Beat Suite (Sunnyside)
Christine Schäfer, Pierre Boulez, Ensemble InterContemporain, Schoenberg: Pierrot Lunair (Deutsche Grammophon)
Liz McComb, The Spirit of New Orleans (GVE)
