Just a quick shout-out to one dish that didn’t make my top five, though it’s something I return to week after week and it’s never let me down: the egg sandwich at Swim Cafe. Creamy espresso-machine-scrambled eggs laced with melted asiago and many, many chunks of mildly spiced Amy’s chicken sausage, smooshed in a panini press between halves of a crusty Red Hen demi-baguette. If you’re lucky, there’s a lacy border of caramelized cheese around the edge. Filling and comforting, I’ve counted on this filling and comforting sandwich to get me through gloomy weekend mornings (or, let’s be real, afternoons) all fall and winter. If it ever gets taken off the menu I will cry.
