Smith got the nod in the nonfiction category for her recent book, Just Kids (Ecco), a remarkable memoir of her life in New York with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe in the late 60s and 70s.
As Miles Raymer noted in a post last week, Smith will be in Chicago (her birthplace) on November 30 to speak for the Columbia College series Conversations in the Arts. Online reservations will be open on October 19.
