SAICs Kristina Januskaite

Once again here’s my favorite fashion event of the year: the School of the Art Institute fashion show. The crowd is diverse and stylish, the student designs are inspiring and fresh, and, last but not least, the music in the background is so good! This time one of the gems they brought back was “The Obvious Child,” by Paul Simon and Olodum. But I digress—we’re here to talk about clothes.

SAIC professor Kristina Januskaite, for example, came up with one of the smartest combos of the event: diamante, pearls, denim, and sneakers. Maybe it’s because I’m pregnant and huge, but sensible shoes are really growing on me right now; they instantly add ease to any look. I keep loving the “sneaker formal” trend, but pairing dressy pieces with sporty shoes doesn’t always work. To avoid a “schizo” outfit, it’s a good idea to match the color of your sneakers with your outfit, just like Kristina did. She was attending the dress rehearsal in the morning and looked perfectly put together with a casual touch. Her brooch and collar detail added all the flair required for a fashion event, helping her achieve the coveted “C” trifecta: chic, cool, and contemporary. More people watching from the event below.
