Ron Offen, poet, playwright, author, and gracious editor of the poetry journal Free Lunch—supported largely out of his own pocket—has died at the age of 79. I talked with him seven years ago, when he was launching a competitive poetry reading series at the Glenview Library. An American Idol for folks with verse they wanted to share, the series offered a $25 book store gift certificate for the winner. The losers got Free Lunch.
