- Eddie Johnson on the violence: “I’m just sick of it”
After another violent weekend, Chicago Police Department superintendent Eddie Johnson said he’s “sick” of the bloodshed. “There’s no other way to describe it,” he said at a press conference Monday. “I’m just sick of it.” At least 52 people were shot and nine were killed over the weekend, according to the Tribune. - Cubs DJ fired for ‘irresponsible music selection’
The Cubs DJ who played the Prodigy’s “Smack My Bitch Up” when relief pitcher Aroldis Chapman left the mound Sunday has been fired by the team. Chapman allegedly choked his girlfriend and fired eight shots during a 2015 domestic violence incident, and was suspended by the MLB for 30 games. The team apologized for the “irresponsible music selection.” [Tribune]
- Double Door can stay in its current location through the end of 2016
A judge has ruled that famous Wicker Park music venue the Double Door can remain in its current spot at least till the end of the year. Hope for the club’s extended future isn’t completely dead: “We still hope to work things out in that building,” co-owner Sean Mulroney said. [Tribune]

- Black Dog Gelato vs. Amorino: the Gold Coast gelato crisis
Amorino gelato from Paris is the gelato of choice in the Gold Coast, not local Black Dog Gelato. Bow Truss Coffee in Mariano Park has been serving Wicker Park-based Black Dog Gelato for a few weeks, but it’s so unpopular a petition is circulating to replace it with gelato from Amorino, a shop at 838 N. State. “We don’t deserve what is being offered right now as dessert,” resident Judi Steinreich told DNAinfo Chicago.
