MacArthur “genius” saxophonist Ken Vandermark plays live Saturday 4/2 at a free screening of the “fluvial western” Roads of Water, which he scored. Italian-born, Paris-based filmmaker Augusto Contento, who lived in Chicago in the 90s, shot Roads of Water from boats on the Amazon, meditating on the impact of the river on the region’s cultures. According to press materials, “the film introduces us to another rhythm of life and another way of relating to the landscape and the people who inhabit it.”
Vandermark and producer Giancarlo Grande will talk after the screening and screen clips from Contento’s in-progress documentary about Chicago post-rock, Parallax Sounds.
