I tend to avoid writing about Kickstarter campaigns (and I’m not about to break that pattern to say something about the latest Amanda Palmer flap). Most Kickstarters are trying to fund something that’s at least a little worthwhile, and honestly I’d rather not try to decide which ones are deserving of coverage—however noble a given campaign may be, it’s not my job to be anybody’s cheerleader. All that said, I’m making an exception today, for a Kickstarter that aims to help defray the expense of properly archiving the recordings made by Chicago activist and show taper Malachi Ritscher: not only is it a great cause, but I’m actually in the short video that Experimental Sound Studio made to promote the campaign.
