I’ve recently been stuck on Tacit in Tact, the newest release from Options, a pop-centric, mathy fourth-wave emo band helmed by local multi-instrumentalist Seth Engel. Tacit in Tact is Engel’s first release of the year, but he’s involved in a handful of other projects—including screamo outfit Guillement and fourth-wave emo outfit Lifted Bells, which is fronted by Bob Nanna of Braid—so I knew I’d hear some more new tunes from him soon. Sure enough last week Engel e-mailed me with a link to some new music he’s getting ready to release.

This time around it’s from his band Coaster, which is dropping a new EP called Tattoos. The songs on Tattoos are delightfully scrappy and nervy—that’s partially thanks to front man Matt Kissinger, who lets out some particularly deranged yelps on the title track. The EP is also a little reminiscent of Options, especially “Swell,” which features the kind of brainy, knotty guitar line Engel can pull off with panache. Tattoos doesn’t come out till Saturday, but we’ve got the exclusive premiere. Coaster’s EP release show is also on Saturday at Township—it starts at 6 PM, and Nervous Passenger, Shiloh, and Mountains for Clouds open.
