Tonight marks the opening of the 25th annual Rhinoceros Theater Festival, one of Chicago’s largest and longest running fringe fests. This year’s extravaganza at Prop Thtr features 42 shows, including theatrical classics, premieres, plays by and for kids, and a tribute to cofounder Jenny Magnus. Read Tony Adler’s write-up here.
The local comedy collective Comedians You Should Know is celebrating its six-year anniversary the only proper way: rounding up past and present CYSK members and throwing a big ole showcase for itself. The event at Timothy O’Toole’s features Mike Lebovitz, Marty DeRosa, Junior Stopka, and others.
Darkside—a duo comprised of electronic artist Nicolas Jaar and multi-instrumentalist Dave Harrington—performs at Metro tonight. Peter Margasak says the pair “pretty much dispense[s] with conventional forms, developing their pieces using multilayered flurries of melody and floating guitar lines, which coalesce into dense, cloudlike formations that carry the listener away with them.” High Water opens.
