Looking for something to do today? Agenda‘s got you covered:
It’s day two of the Chicago International Movies & Music Festival, an expansive four-day showcase of movies and live music and movies about live music (and Q&As). Today’s feature documentary screenings include Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me at Logan Theatre and Muddy Waters and the Rolling Stones at the Checkerboard Lounge, Chicago 1981 at Music Box.
For the “music” portion of CIMM Fest, there will be live performances by Pontiak at the Burlington and Lydia Loveless and Luke Winslow-King at the Hideout. “Winslow-King’s forthcoming third album, The Coming Tide, makes me wonder if certain elements of Slaughterhouse-Five are really science fiction,” writes Leor Galil in Soundboard.
Bizarro Hour at KnockBox Cafe is a reading event that forgoes traditional live lit standards “in favor of stunt readings that veer into the territory of performance art and stand-up comedy.” Featured readers include Michael Allen Rose (Party Wolves in My Skull), Justin Grimbol (The Crud Masters), and MP Johnson (The After-Life Story of Pork Knuckles Malone).
