The MV Abegweit, a ferry that at one time was the most powerful icebreaker in the world, first launched in Canadian waters in 1946. Now she serves as the clubhouse for the Columbia Yacht Club, which thanks to the Chicago Architecture Foundation opens tonight for a behind-the-scenes evening filled with nautical history, food, and drink.
As they do every month, City Winery has gathered four talented people from a range of creative industries for a dinner party, and we’re all invited. Wilco’s Glenn Kotche, radio host Kathy Hart, actor Marc Grapey, and chef Peter Coenen of the Gage are tonight’s guests, and Elisabeth Alfano is host.
Swedish rock trio Truckfighters play Reggie’s Rock Club tonight with Marmora and Taken by the Sun. Truckfighters’ first album in four years, Universe, just dropped last month, and Monica Kendrick writes that on the album “they have a lot of fun with soft-loud leaps, and the spacey, almost funky breakdowns in the longer tracks (‘The Chairman,’ the 13-minute ‘Mastodont’) don’t come at the expense of reliable, groovy riffs (‘Dream Sale’) or the occasional poplike hook—’Prophet’ is a bit structurally reminiscent of a Nirvana single.”
