Looking for something to do today? Agenda‘s got you covered:
Richard Buckner performs tonight at Schubas. “The emotional heft and stark beauty in Buckner’s streamlined singing, sorrowful melodies, and sparse instrumental work . . . are such that he could sing gibberish and make it work,” writes Peter Margasak in Soundboard.
The promoters behind the Monday-night dance party Porn and Chicken did a pretty good job of selecting a name that establishes reasonable expectations. Porn is shown. Chicken wings are served. There’s also music and dancing. The weekly rager celebrates its third anniversary with a nine-DJ party called the “Shocker.”
Martin Scorsese’s GoodFellas screens tonight at the Logan Theatre. “In terms of narrative fluidity, it may well be the most accomplished thing Scorsese’s ever done,” writes former Reader film critic Jonathan Rosenbaum.
