Looking for something to do today? Agenda‘s got you covered:
The 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech is this Wednesday, and it has everyone, including us, reflecting. Journalist Gary Younge, whose new book The Speech tells the story behind that famous sermon, visits the Chicago Cultural Center today to discuss the book and participate in a panel discussion about King’s legacy.
Reader critic Peter Margasak writes of Rhythms of China, “The few pieces I’ve heard are superb, masterfully balancing traditional Chinese sounds with contemporary techniques,” writes Peter Margasak in Soundboard. The performance of traditional and contemporary Chinese music, assembled by the Chinese Fine Arts Society, takes place at Pritzker Pavilion.
The University of Chicago’s Oriental Institute and Great Lakes Brewing Co. have spent the past year trying to brew ancient Sumerian ale using techniques of the era, and now they’re ready to introduce it to modern beer snobs at the Fountainhead. The $60 admission price gets you the beer plus two other Great Lakes brews, appetizers, and three-course dinner.
