Chicago’s Expo Art Week kicks off today with a curators’ tour of THE CHICAGO EFFECT: Redefining the Middle , a new exhibition at the Hyde Park Art Center. Curated by Allison Peters Quinn and Megha Ralapati, the show examines the societal and spacial roles of the American middle class.
Seven short films and two episodes from Tello Films are screened tonight as part of Women’s Words Film Festival. Organized by Pride Films and Plays and hosted at Near North’s Public House, the film festival features local shorts like Friends Who Like Nickelback as well as UK productions like Say That You Love Me and Angie & Jackie Final Cut.
Fresh off the release of Family Crimes, California psych-folk duo Skygreen Leopards performs at the Hideout tonight. “It sounds like an informal porch session that just happens to include drums and keyboards,” says Peter Margasak of Family Crimes. Jennifer Castle and Quicksails round out the evening.
