Each spring local bands pack their vans and head south for a weird, warm week in Austin, Texas. Eleven of them—including Radar Eyes, Outer Minds, Absolutely Not, Ryley Walker, and Wrekmeister Harmonies—are playing the Hideout’s annual SXSW Send Off Party.

If the WWE has taught us anything, it’s that wrestling is, above all else, about the spectacle. The Chicago League of Lady Arm Wrestlers is no different. Competitors with names like Anne Hackaway and Lumberjack Jill will sport their most extravagant costumes at CLLAW XVIII as they go head-to-head (and arm-to-arm) in pursuit of the coveted CLLAW championship gloves. See the action at Logan Square Auditorium.

Young Chicago Authors hosts the semifinals for the Louder Than a Bomb poetry-slam competition at Metro. This year’s focus is on oral histories of CPS students, parents, teachers, affiliates, administrators, and staff.
