Looking for something to do today? Agenda‘s got you covered.
The gathering of authors and bookstores at the Printers Row Lit Fest is a bibliophile’s wildest dream. The 30th-anniversary weekend of readings, discussions, workshops, and book sales kicks off today with an adult spelling bee, a cooking demo with “Breakfast Queen” Ina Pinkney, and talks with children’s author Kevin Henkes, novelist Chris Abani (The Virgin of Flames), and Trib columnist Greg Kot, among others. Read more about the weekend of words here.
The Chicago Architecture Foundation hosts its inaugural Scavenger Hunt, a daylong excursion that takes participants through the Loop’s notable landmarks and reveals hidden gems within. Teams are given a map, a T-shirt, and three hours to complete the hunt.
Mother Falcon, the 17-member indie orchestra, plays Schubas tonight with Family Crest. You read that correctly; an orchestra is playing Schubas. The group is comprised of cellists, violinists, pianists, an accordion player, a bassoonist, and a collection of other talented musicians who shared the desire to break the classical mold that their instruments of choice thrust them into. In Soundboard, Noah Berlatsky calls the group “a refreshing change from standard-issue indie pop, and its members clearly have a fine eye for drama and stagecraft.”
