Writers, hip-hop artists, spoken-word poets, songwriters, and visual artists join forces for Word Weekend, an expansive series of performances and lectures at the Museum of Contemporary Art that celebrates the complexities and pleasures of language. A Steppenwolf Theater reading of This Is Modern Art, improvisatory performances on word-body duality, and poetry readings by Johannes Goransson and Cassandra Troyan are free today with museum admission.

Fed Up Fest comes to Bridgeport’s Co-Prosperity Sphere for three days of music, workshops, and queercore celebration. Inspired by NYC’s short-lived Fed Up Queers coalition, Fed Up Fest stands up against “racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, ableism, capitalism, and all other fucked up ‘isms’ and ‘phobias’ at macro and micro levels.” Musical acts include Closet Burner, Aye Nako, In School, Force Quit, and Anomaly.

Hardcore punk band 7 Seconds returns to Chicago to perform at the Cobra Lounge tonight. “It’s probably safe to assume there’s no bottom to the bag of sing-alongs,” says the Reader‘s Kevin Warwick.
