‘Twas 1990 when Madonna appropriated 80s club culture and made “voguing” a verb for the masses. The style survived the mainstream and lives on in clubs right here in Chicago. And sometimes it’s for a good cause. At Berlin, Stardust’s seventh annual Vogue for Tots vogue-off invites skilled voguers to strike poses in various categories. Bring a toy for Toys for Tots (not an adult toy, as the press release reminds us).

“In the early 90s, San Francisco singer-songwriter Mark Kozelek established his mastery of the territory where resplendent and woebegone overlap: his band Red House Painters, as memorable for wistful make-out epics as for imaginative Kiss covers, led the decade’s wave of dreamy, navel-gazing slowcore,” writes Erin Osmon in Soundboard. Catch Kozelek tonight at Lincoln Hall.

At Chop Shop, DJ and producer LA Jesus (aka Nate Euhus) celebrates ten years since his first appearance with the Amen2Ten Dance Party. Entertainment from She’s Crafty, the Fabulous Ladies of Fitness, and Mr. Automatic & Vorteque, plus a photo booth with photographer Saverio Truglia.
