For the first time in eight years, jazz vocalist Maria Rita performs in Chicago. “For this rare stateside trip . . . she’s performing only with pianist Tiago Costa, surveying songs from across her decade-plus career as well as revisiting her mother’s music,” writes Peter Margasak in Soundboard. Catch the set at City Winery.

Jena Cutie recommends checking out Vision, Faith, & Desire II, the second installment of a six-part dance performance choreographed by Winifred Haun and Lizzie Leopold, inspired by the work of Martha Graham. “Each of the six pieces shows Graham’s influence: riffs on her style and technique, the incorporation of props,” writes Cutie. See the show at the Pritzker Pavilion.

At Simone’s, the transportation website Streetsblog Chicago celebrates its first year with a reader meetup, featuring complimentary snacks and a cash bar.
