Looking for something to do today? Agenda‘s got you covered:
TBS’s ongoing Chicago-wide comedy festival “Just for Laughs” is in full swing. Tonight features Nick Swardson at the Vic while John Hodgman (“Performing as Celebrated Humorist John Hodgman”) takes over Park West. See our sidebar for more.
“Formed in Memphis in 1993 and disbanded in ’98, the Oblivians are arguably the most important group ever to have arisen from the resurgent lo-fi garage-rock scene—and holy crap, last week they released their first album of new material in more than 15 years, Desperation (In the Red),” writes Luca Cimarusti in Soundboard. “But before the trio hits the road on a highly anticipated tour (they’ve been reuniting occasionally since at least 2006), Jack “Oblivian” Yarber is taking his solo project out for a spin.” Catch Yarber tonight at the Empty Bottle.
Busy Beaver Button Company presents a limited edition comic book and button set, which you can pick it up tonight at Parson’s Chicken & Fish, to help kick off the Chicago Alternative Comic Expo. There will also be complimentary chicken and beer while supplies last.
