Looking for something to do today? Agenda‘s got you covered.

Only eight musical shows out of 40 submissions were selected by the Underscore Theatre Company to premiere at the Chicago Musical Theatre Festival. Plays range in topic from the purpose of the national anthem to the downfall of a legendary cereal mascot; it kicks off tonight at Den Theatre with Anthem, Mr. Munch Has a Murmur, and I Have Been to the Wild Wood, and continues through 6/15.

Rapid Pulse describes performance art as “sitting between visual art, theatre, music, and dance,” and happening anywhere and for any length of time. But we know exactly when and where the Rapid Pulse Performing Arts Festival is. Today’s happenings include a talk with Jason Lim at the Society for the Arts (1112 N. Milwaukee), a performance by Michal Samama at Defibrillator (1136 N. Milwaukee), and the “Captive Anatomies” video series at Nightingale (1084 N. Milwaukee).

If you’ve long dismissed Vampire Weekend for their tendency toward cultural appropriation and their inaccessibly preppy-privileged image, maybe you should give them another shot. According to Miles Raymer, you may be pleasantly surprised. He writes, “Modern Vampires of the City (XL) dials down Vampire Weekend’s schtick, and it’s by far their best album yet.” They perform tonight at UIC Pavilion.
