The ninth annual Snapshots Play Festival begins today at North Center’s Conservatory. Featuring ten female playwrights and ten female directors, this evening of ten-minute plays celebrates women in theater.

Local funnyman Adam Burke (a recent Best of Chicago winner) comes to the Hideout tonight where he’ll sit down with guests Brian Costello, Tim Kinsella, and Barrie Jean Borich. Chicago indie-rock band Brother George leads off a post-show concert with Ida y Vuelta and Minor Characters.

Today marks the 70th anniversary of the liquidation of Poland’s Lodz Ghetto, and the Union League Club of Chicago is hosting a commemoration to honor its memory. The ceremony includes a procession of the memorial candle and a moderated discussion featuring Teresa Pollin of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Professor Yohanan Petrovsky-Shtern of Northwestern University, Michael Traison, and Lodz Ghetto survivor, Charles Lipshitz.
