Looking for something to do today? Agenda‘s got you covered.
Today is the first day of Expo Chicago, aka the International Exposition of Contemporary Modern Art, which brings together visual art from 125 different galleries from 36 different cities in 17 countries. For more background on the festival (which takes place at Navy Pier’s Festival Hall), read this Q&A with Expo Chicago president and director Tony Karman from our Fall Arts Preview.
The Englewood Jazz Festival kicks off today at the Hamilton Park Cultural Center with a roundtable discussion on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with composers Ernest Dawkins and Kelan Phil Cohran, historian Timuel Black, and poet Khari B.
Also in jazz, alto saxophonist and 2008 MacArthur fellow Miguel Zenon brings his Rhythm Collective to Jazz Showcase. Peter Margasak says the group “delivers a thrilling counterpoint to Zenon’s regular quartet, focusing squarely on hard-hitting Afro-Caribbean polyrhythms.”
