In conjunction with World Book Night, local author Scott Turow (Presumed Innocent, Identical) speaks at Sulzer Regional Library. World Book Night encourages readers to hand out free books in their communities in order to provide literary inspiration to those who might not pick up a book otherwise. Attendees at tonight’s event will receive a free WBN edition of Shakespeare’s sonnets.

In advance of his forthcoming appearance at this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival, Los Angeles rapper Schoolboy Q performs at the Metro in support of Oxymoron, his latest LP. “Singles such as the brooding yet weirdly hedonistic ‘Man of the Year’ are broadening the MC’s audience,” writes Miles Raymer in Soundboard. Included on the bill is Q’s Black Hippy cohort Isaiah Rashad, who’s also slotted for P4K and is riding the success of his recent release, Cilvia Demo.

Our senior theater critic Tony Adler recommends The Way West, Steppenwolf Theater’s latest production. “Just about a year ago, Steppenwolf premiered Head of Passes, Tarell Alvin McCraney’s grim American update on the story of Job . . . The current Steppenwolf show—Mona Mansour’s acid satire The Way West—puts a fun-house twist on exactly the same conceit,” writes Adler.
