Looking for something to do today? Agenda‘s got you covered.

Battles of the bands aren’t really battles; they’re more like queues of acts waiting to be judged. The ante is upped with face-to-face warfare at Amp vs. Amp tonight at the Empty Bottle. One of the battles: the Paver and Bleach Party volley songs back and forth, culminating in an epic brawl in which the bands play their final songs at the same time, a la Scott Pilgrim.

Tonight at Millennium Park you can catch Top Gun, the Tony Scott 1986 classic starring Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer as macho Air Force pilots. It’s worth watching, if only to see the greatest volleyball scene of all time.

On the first Tuesday of every month, Chicago Reader writers Ben Joravsky and Mick Dumke are given a stage at the Hideout to talk city politics—and whatever the hell else they might feel needs a takedown. Aldermen Rick Munoz (22nd Ward) and Danny Solis (25th) are tonight’s guests.
