- Bodies of Work Festival
Looking for something to do today? Agenda‘s got you covered:
The Bodies of Work Festival has a specific message about what disability means “personally, politically, and aesthetically.” The 11-day, multivenue event (through 5/25), which celebrates the work of artists with disabilities, kicks off tonight at Chicago Cultural Center with an opening celebration and panel discussion.
Kevin Warwick writes in Soundboard that Deep Sea Diver frontwoman Jessica Dobson “shows off impressive songwriting chops and vocal range . . . exhibiting a flair for the (overly) dramatic and a tendency to bounce around playfully, tambourine in hand.” Deep Sea Diver opens for Telekinesis tonight at Lincoln Hall.
If you’ve never seen footworking done with a live band—and who has?—here’s your chance. In a culmination of the Auditorium Theatre’s months-long Music + Movement Festival, the hip-hop arts organization Kuumba Lynx performs with jazz-and-blues-oriented band Urban Aspirations in Braid Tales . . . Remix.
