Looking for something to do today? Agenda‘s got you covered.
Although Big Freedia’s latest album, Just Be Free, adds nuance and mainstream influences to the pumping and pounding sounds of bounce music, you can safely expect plenty of good old-fashioned bumping and twerking at tonight’s Empty Bottle show. Our Miles Raymer writes that her live performances “remain as fantastically raw and in-the-red as they’ve ever been,” which means you’re likely to leave nearly deaf, and plenty sweaty and happy.
It’s been a full 23 years since cult director Alejandro Jodorowsky’s last film found him returning again to the lyrical surrealism that’s long been his trademark. In 2013’s The Dance of Reality, it’s Jodorowsky’s own life that is embellished with his characteristically fanciful and frightening touches. See for yourself tonight at the Music Box.
Castle is a no-frills, no-nonsense metal trio that, according to our Monica Kendrick, worked on refining “the medieval-tavern-brawl elements of their sound” for their latest full-length, Under Siege. A medieval tavern the Cobra Lounge is not, but the vibes there tonight should be dark enough to withstand heavy-as-sin tracks like “A Killing Place” and “Pyramid Lake.”
