Maybe there’s just something comforting about one-piece dressing. How else to explain the return of the 70s-era jumpsuit? Could there be anything easier than just pulling on one item and calling it a day? Could there be anything more difficult than actually looking good in one?
A press release from SHE boutique suggests shorter women “should opt for more tailored versions and 3/4 and shorter lengths,” although a short jumpsuit sounds disturbingly like a romper. As usual, taller, thinner women will have an easier time carrying off the style. Belting is probably the key–longer-waisted women will want to cinch it lest they look like one big torso. I do like the version in this image, by WINK and available at SHE (I can’t find it online, but here are some others), for its louche, Halston-at-Studio-54 quality and emphasized waistline.
I noticed Jen, one of the salespeople at Tangerine, wearing a jumpsuit last fall and she looked terrifically ahead-of-the-moment–a reminder that risk-taking styles are best paired with an air of confidence.
