Freeloaders worldwide are in mourning after a federal judge handed down a permanent injunction against LimeWire LLC forcing the company to remove “searching, downloading, uploading, file trading, and/or file distribution functionality” from its incredibly popular P2P software, which boasted 50 million unique users a month. The injunction is the result of four years of legal warfare between LimeWire and the RIAA, and will be followed in January by a decision about how much LimeWire has to pay in damages related to copyright violations.

The ceremonial period of mourning for the software will expire later this afternoon, when its users realize that you can find a free download of any record on earth by googling its title plus the word “mediafire.”
