Dino Buzzati was an Italian journalist, author, and artist who wrote children’s books as well as fiction for grown-ups. His 1969 graphic novel Poem Strip tells the tale of a young rock dude who pursues his girlfriend into the spirit world. The story tangles up into a surrealist myth suffused with sex, rock ‘n’ roll, and mortality, which plays out in a series of luscious, strange illustrations. The New York Review of Books has just issued a new translation in paperback.
