• Maga Bo

New York-born, Rio de Janeiro-based DJ and producer Maga Bo rolls into town for a late-announced gig at Subterranean on Saturday night—the SubT Lounge on the first floor, to be precise. Earlier this year the global beat collector released a terrific new album, Quilombo do Futuro (Post World Industries), on which he sticks closer to home than usual, digging deep into Brazilian grooves—especially rhythms from the country’s culturally rich northeast, such as maracatu, embolada, and coco. Back in May I posted a killer cut called “No Balanço da Canoa” as a 12 O’Clock Track, and since then I’ve absorbed a lot more of this diverse album.
