France has long had one of Europe’s most dynamic and disparate immigrant populations, so it makes sense that it would produce lots of multiculti musical acts like Sergent Garcia, who are playing tonight at the Logan Square Auditorium. Writing about the band’s Chicago debut back in 2000, I was impressed by their unself-conscious, party-friendly mix of salsa, reggae, funk, dancehall, and hip-hop. I haven’t followed the band for quite a few years, and now such panglobal olios are a dime a dozen, from Ozomatli to Grupo Fantasma.
