The prestigious electronic-music festival Sonar, based in Barcelona, Spain, has announced that it’s planting roots in Chicago with a three-day event this September 9-11. Sonar, which launched in 1994 and usually draws around 80,000 people in three days, is rather catholic in its bookings for an electronic-music fest; last year Grace Jones, Animal Collective, Mulatu Astatke, and Omar Souleyman were among the acts complementing more straightforwardly electronic fare like Carl Craig, Fever Ray, LCD Soundsystem, and Luomo. Its latest installment starts this Thursday in Spain and includes sets by Roxy Music, Air, Jimi Tenor, Broadcast, and the Sugar Hill Gang.
