Today we kick off a new Bleader video series called Soundcheck. We’ll be filming local and touring musicians as they set up to perform around town, interviewing them about their careers, and snagging footage of their sets. Our inaugural Soundcheck video stars Olympia postpunk outfit Arrington de Dionyso’s Malaikat dan Singa; we met up with the band at Schubas on Memorial Day and spoke with front man Arrington de Dionyso about learning Indonesian, William Blake, and throat singing.
We also captured the group’s dynamic performance of the title track off their new album, Open the Crown (K Records). A special thanks goes out to the fine folks at Schubas—including sound man Fabrice Dauer and his assistant, Steven Ortiz—for letting us film the show. Take a peek at the full Soundcheck video below.
