Street View is a fashion series in which Isa Giallorenzo spotlights some of the coolest styles seen in Chicago.

Trends are fun. They capture some of our collective consciousness, a mood everyone is kinda feeling. Right now I’m sensing two major directions: hyperindividuality (the unwillingness to follow trends), and the 90s. I think it makes sense both are happening at the same time since the 90s were a decade that tried to ignore fashion, either in its jaded grungy ways or in its unabashed lack of taste (think Spice Girls and raver kids) or in its sporty casual wear (think soccer moms and Calvin Klein denim ads). So yeah, I saw a lot of that at Pitchfork this year, with great interpretations such as Eloise’s, pictured above. Her effortless high and low mix is a master move—even though she’s just 12, this girl is a natural. See more Pitchfork style savants below.

  • Eloise. Came to see: Kendrick Lamar. Why this outfit? “I tried it on a couple of months ago and it finally fit, so I thought this would be the perfect place to wear it.”

  • Rose. Came to see: St. Vincent and Grimes. She also came to promote a juice bar opening in Logan Square, Owen + Alchemy. Why this outfit? “I don’t get to wear a crochet bikini very often, so I do that once a year at Pitchfork.”

  • Carol Ann. Came to see: Slowdive and Grimes. Why this outfit? “I’m really into monochromatic, especially having really bright hair. I’d love a total white outfit but that’s totally not doable at Pitchfork.”

  • Rody and Gabrielle. Rody came to see: DIIV and Grimes. Why this outfit? “All white sounded fun.” Gabrielle came to see: Slowdive, Grimes, St. Vincent, and FKA Twiggs. Why this outfit? “I like the summery linen skirt, and we wanted to match.”

  • Claire and Molly Soda. Claire came to see: Grimes. Why this outfit? “Because it’s comfy and casual.” Molly came to see: Slowdive and Grimes. Why this outfit? “It was one of the only things I brought with me, and I’m also really into overalls right now.”

  • Every time they put these Shrek watches together they travel to a different dimension.

  • Alex. Came to see: Slowdive, Grimes, Kelela, and FKA Twigs. Why this outfit? “I’m really into mixing prints lately. It feels very earthy but still very grungy. My style itself is grungy, but for festival wear I like to tap into my inner boho.”

  • Jessica. Came to see: DIIV. Why this outfit? “It was last minute, I got it earlier at the thrift store today. Then I didn’t want to get suntanned so I wore my boyfriend’s jersey. I paid like $3 for this whole outfit.”
  • Jessica

  • Felicia and Kate. Felicia came to see: Kendrick Lamar and DJ Spinn. Why this outfit? “This look is 90s Fredrick’s of Hollywood. It matches my hair and these shoes are comfortable”. Kate came to see: Kendrick Lamar, DJ Spinn and Pusha T. Why this outfit? “It’s Andrew W.K. chic. I was wearing these pants and I didn’t have any shirts to match, so Felicia gave me this white one. She said it was my Sunday look.”

  • Jessica. Came to see: Grimes. Why this outfit? Because it’s street savvy, and I think these colors pop. Also I like the whole overall/jumper/romper look.”

  • Alysse D’Alessandro, was selling her Ready-to-Stare line at the Coterie. Why this look? “I love wearing crop tops for summer and the body chain and the dino earrings were the perfect complements to the pink.”
