It seems like every band that comes up these days in town is a “supergroup” of some sort, comprised of notable dudes from well-established bands. Tomorrow night at the Subterranean, a record-release party is shaking down for one of these all-star bands. It’s called Treasure Fleet and it’s comprised of members of some of Chicago’s best-known punk acts: the Arrivals, Smoking Popes, and Lawrence Arms. These guys laid the groundwork for Chicago punk rock through the late 90s and early aughts, and this newer act strips away the breakneck gruffness of their better-known acts, making way for layered, poppy rock.
