Linda Garcia Merchant’s documentary Sweet Words, Bitter Words, featuring six solo performances by members of the LGBTQQ and Latina spoken word group La Dulce Palabra, premieres Thursday as part of the National Museum of Mexican Art‘s Sor Juana Festival: A Tribute to Mexican Women. 

Performers Alicia Tellez Vega, Martha Cartagena, Martiza Nazario, Zoraida Ortiz, Evon Flores Barrera, Milka Ramirez, Marixa Rojas and Maria Del Carmen Calderon tell “stories of urban life, intergenerational connections, poetry of the people, growing older with a bang, empowered sexuality and domestic violence.”

Sweet Words, Bitter Words screens Thursday from 7-9:30 PM at the National Museum of Mexican Art, 1852 W. 19th St.  $5; students $4; members $3.
