Speaking of the 33 1/3 series, this entry on the 33 1/3 blog points to a terrific LA Times review of two recent works of metallic magic realism: Martin Millar’s Suzy, Led Zeppelin and Me and John Darnielle‘s Master of Reality (an entry in the 33 1/3 series that takes the form of a novel rather than the more conventional journalistic essay format). Metal fans are still getting the best kind of revenge on the mainstream rock press, which denigrated and devalued them through much of the 70s and 80s, by doing some of the most innovative, imaginative, and engaging music-related writing out there.

Also gleaned: metal writer Ian Christe (who wrote for the Reader once upon a time) has started a metal-specific publishing house, Bazillion Points.
