Most candidates approach election day with boasts of how their prospects for victory keep getting better. Kenny Johnson is one of them. A couple of days ago his campaign sent out an e-mail blast noting that a poll had found him leading the race for the state’s 26th Representative District–no matter that the poll was several weeks old and that the campaign had sent out the exact same announcement (with a different headline) two times previously.

Phillip Jackson, one of Johnson’s opponents, has taken a different tack. The message his campaign sent out Tuesday had a subject line that reflected either brutal honesty or genuine surprise at his chances: “Phillip Jackson Has a Shot!!!”
