We’ve survived 364 days of this arduous year, so let’s make the last one count. Kick 2017 to the curb, then kick it at one of our recommended New Year’s Eve events:

Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers Power into the New Year fueled by tacos and 3 Floyds beer at Big Star (1531 N. Damen). DJs spin both hard metal and oldies by the likes of Hank Williams. Knock back a shot of bourbon at midnight, because champagne is for the weak. 6 PM, free

Burning Bluebeard and The Infinite Wrench The Ruffians end their limited run of Burning Bluebeard playing a New Year’s double bill with the Neo-Futurists, who’ll present their tentpole show, The Infinite Wrench. Both take place at the Neo-Futurarium (5153 N. Ashland). UPDATE: Sold out; a waiting list will be taken at the door. 7:30 PM, $75

Funny and Famous Chi Town Comedy Countdown
Lil Rel Howery—who cut his chops at the former Jokes & Notes comedy club—headlines a packed evening of stand-up at the Arie Crown Theater (2301 S. Lake Shore), featuring DeRay Davis, Tiffany Haddish, Michael Blackson, Lil Duval, and other guests TBD. 10 PM-1 AM, $75-$285

Go F*** Yourself, 2017 Seriously. Head to the Public House Theatre (3914 N. Clark) for drunken karaoke, a dance party, and a performance of Bye Bye Liver: The Chicago Drinking Play. Because as Homer Simpson says, “To alcohol! The cause of, and solution to, all of life’s problems.” 8 PM, $25-$50

New Year’s Eve Dance Party At Uncommon Ground (3800 N. Clark), DJ My Boy Elroy herds drunks onto the dance floor while others scarf down food from a prix fixe menu that includes apple-and-pear brioche bread pudding and brown-sugar balsamic-braised short ribs. 5 PM, $35 music and drink, $45 music, drink, and food

A Night of Witchcraft and Wizardry This party at the Laboratory (2349 W. North) begins by sorting attendees into “houses” a la Harry Potter, which then compete with each other using the magic of science! Watch out for explosions other than the midnight fireworks outside. 6:45 PM, $40

Noname Rising hip-hop star Noname, whom Reader music critic Leor Galil calls “a distinctive, thoughtful talent capable of balancing intellect and intimacy,” leads the lyrical charge into the New Year at Lincoln Hall (2424 N. Lincoln). 10 PM-1 AM, $40 in advance, $45 at the door

Steamworks: The Musical New Year’s at the Annoyance Theatre (851 W. Belmont) is a holistic affair. Appetizers whet the appetite for dessert and a one-off return of the theater’s popular gay-bathhouse-centered tale Steamworks: The Musical. 9:30 PM, $40

Voyager Ring in 2018 with DJs, visual art, and the echo inside the yet-to-be-announced industrial space where this underground party will take place. Keep an eye on for updates. Time and location TBA, $100

New Year’s Eve at the Mart Marshall’s Landing (222 W. Merchandise Mart, second floor) throws a party in the heart of the Mart—a bash that includes upscale hors d’oeuvres, drink specials, and the capper: an unblocked view of the skyline and the Chicago river. 9 PM, $95
