Don’t let the sub-zero temperature dissuade you from going out this weekend. Here’s some of what we recommend:

Fri 1/5:
Tonight is the opening reception for “In the Land of Pasaquan: The Story of Eddie Owens Martin”—a gallery show about Martin’s installation piece Pasquan, currently located in Buena Vista, Georgia. Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art (756 N. Milwaukee) tells Martin’s tale through his paintings, drawings, clothing, sculpture, and ritual objects. 5:30-8:30 PM, free

Fri 1/5-Sat 1/6: Combining short-form and long-form improv (if you can call eight minutes “long-form”), The Original Improv Gladiators: Season 29 puts comedians through the gauntlet for a shot at a five-week run at Cornservatory (4210 N. Lincoln). 8 PM, $10

Sat 1/6: The forecast calls for roughly zero-degree temperatures—perfect running weather for the brave or the foolhardy. The Chicago Polar Dash welcomes both to run a half marathon, 10K, 5K, or 1.8K. Bring a balaclava to the starting location in Grant Park (S. Columbus at E. Jackson). 8:45 AM-12:45 PM, $49.99-$104.99

Sat 1/6: Guitar in tow, stand-up Nick Thune delivers wry one-liners and occasionally strums along. He performs Saturday at Up Comedy Club (230 W. North). 6:30, 8:30, and 11 PM, $25-$60

Sat 1/6: B-Side Vinyl Shop + Swap, a pop-up fair at Arts Incubator (301 E. Garfield), mines the collections of record shops Wild Prairie Vinyl and Vintage and Shady Rest Vintage and Vinyl for a collection of LPs and EPs to sell. Attendees are encouraged to bring vinyl gems from home to participate in a swap. 11 AM-4 PM, free

Sun 1/7: Head to Snowtrekking at Northerly Island to float above the ground on snowshoes and take a tour of Northerly Island Park (1521 S. Lynn White) to admire its nature and view of the city skyline. 10 AM-2 PM, free

Sun 1/7: No need to change out of your PJs. Carnivale (702 W. Fulton) serves Latin-fusion food to all cozy customers at its Pajama Brunch. Showering beforehand is optional. 10:30 AM-3 PM, free
