One of my favorite thrift stores in the city–not so much for clothes, but for furniture and housewares and gadgets–is the Salvation Army at 506 N. DesPlaines, just off of Grand Ave. It’s the only Salvation Army I’ve been to with an “antique store,” a room in the building with more expensive, higher-quality items (closed on Mondays, IIRC). Choice finds the last time I went included an autoharp and a Southern Comfort belt buckle, which would have been a fine visual pun, given where I’m from, but I try not to work blue when it comes to my wardrobe.
