I wrote last week about the forgotten issue in the presidential campaign—38 percent of African-American children, and 35 percent of Hispanic children, are living in poverty; the poverty rate of minority kids is triple that of white kids (12 percent). If 38 percent of white kids were poor, I wrote, poverty not only would be an issue in the presidential campaign, it would be the key issue. As it is, poverty isn’t even mentioned on the websites of President Obama and Mitt Romney.
I’ve e-mailed both campaigns, asking why their websites ignore poverty. If I ever hear back from the Romney campaign, I’ll let you know.
