The Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago has long been one of the city’s savviest, most adventurous presenters of contemporary art, but curator Hamza Walker has also maintained a sideline as a smart presenter of avant-garde music. An unusual partnership with CAN TV, Chicago’s public-access cable network, will highlight some of the Ren’s recent performances: beginning at 8 PM this Sunday, August 7, channel 21 will air a series of five concerts, each running twice. The series ends October 9.
This is an amazingly great idea: I’d be hard-pressed to name any other time Chicagoans have been able watch big-name experimental musicians such as Tony Conrad and David Moss on local TV. After the jump: the six concerts, along with their air dates. All showings are at 8 PM.
