From “black people will come for the white women” to “black people will come for your presidency” is racist racial progress, right?  Here’s Tribune Company star columnist Jonah Goldberg:

I think it’s worth imagining a certain scenario. Imagine the Democrats do rally around Obama. Imagine the media invests as heavily in him as I think we all know they will if he’s the nominee — and then imagine he loses. I seriously think certain segments of American political life will become completely unhinged. I can imagine the fear of this social unraveling actually aiding Obama enormously in 2008.

Emphasis Glenn Greenwald’s. I’d like to know which “segments” he’s referring to. He might mean liberal fascists (“we’ve seized the English department and we’re going to start tossing out dead adjuncts every hour unless Obama gets a cabinet position . . .”). Maybe he’s just talking about columnists and bloggers, who are somewhere between senior-tour golfers and premature babies in terms of fearsomeness. I’m imagining the worst scenario I can possibly think of, and it involves a flood of blog posts leading to enforced server-space rationing. Whatever: it’s not something I’d worry about too much.

I do wish, however, that Timothy McNulty would stop piddling over headlines and explain how his paper can continue running pieces by Jonah Goldberg. And “the Paper of Record just hired the arguably more incompetent Bill Kristol” is not an excuse.
