Formerly Frankie J’s, Frank Janisch’s restaurant underneath his MethaDome Theater has netted decidedly mixed reviews–or maybe polarized is a better word–from Reader Restaurant Raters since it reopened last year as the Spot, but this recent rave from Sonja Livingston had me on the phone to find out if the Bears game package she described was more than a one-time deal. Sure enough, they’re offering another one this Sunday, and for $25 you get all-you-can-eat wings, brats, and chili, plus as much draft beer as you can handle. The Bears play the Saints at 2 PM; if you’re sticking around for the Colts-Pats matchup at 5:30 you have to pony up another 25 bucks.

As for the “whiskey professor” she mentions, that would be John Barrett, a Jack Daniel’s employee who travels the country enlightening bar and restaurant employees about the nuances of whiskey, bourbon, and scotch. He’ll be on site Tuesday, January 23, at 7 PM offering tastings of Gentleman Jack, Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel, and an unnamed limited edition whiskey that, according to the dude who answered the phone, “you can’t taste anywhere.” It’s $10–as are all of the Spot’s tastings, which they hold every Tuesday.
