The man who told the world that Chicago is the “current theatre capital of America,” British Guardian drama critic Michael Billington, will be a featured speaker at the international symposium to be held in Chicago next year on that very subject. The Columbia College Theatre Department announced yesterday that “Chicago—Theatre Capital of America: Past, Present, Future” will bring together academics and practicing theater artists from around the country and abroad to ponder how Chicago theater went from “a grassroots movement to a global phenomenon.” The seminar is scheduled for May 18-22, 2011. Other speakers on the roster include Steppenwolf Theatre artistic director Martha Lavey and critic Todd London. More information here.
