• Third Coast Percussion

As I mentioned last week, Chicago’s own Third Coast Percussion is getting in on the John Cage centennial with a concert at Mayne Stage on May 25. The show is also a release party for a forthcoming album of Cage percussion music on the excellent Mode label, and today Third Coast announced how one of the pieces on the program is coming together. RENGA: Cage: 100 is a hybrid of two Cage works, Renga and Apartment House 1776, which were written so that they could be performed simultaneously. For its combined version, Third Coast solicited material from 100 composers, “each contributing a sound, a musical idea, or some other prescribed performance or activity.”
