Festival season’s upon us, and the new issue of the Reader is appropriately fest heavy. It includes our hefty Blues Fest guide, preview coverage of Ribfest Chicago and Logan Square’s newish Metronome Celebration, and Clayton Hauck‘s photos from Do-Division. On top of that there’s a hip-hop-centric installment of Gossip Wolf, my profile of open-eared DIY indie rockers Yawn, and a List featuring previews of Tony Allen, Indian Jewelry, the Fleshtones, and more.

Bonus feature: the illustration accompanying our cover story on Chicago’s past experiments with privately owned public transportation was drawn by none other than Rick Froberg, front man for Obits, Hot Snakes, and Drive Like Jehu, the last of which is considered in my household to be a serious contender for best rock band of all time.
